Question

Thanks for the response to our earlier question about the number of cases, tests, and deaths missing race/ethnicity data. When you do find out the exact numbers, we kindly ask you to report integer numbers for each demographic category instead of percentages. If this is not possible, we kindly ask you to report two decimal points for the percentages along with the exact number of cases/tests/deaths missing race/ethnicity data. Thanks in advance for everything.

Hi Laura,   We are looking into this, but our office is extremely busy right now. This would require some development to our dashboard, so I am not sure when I will be able to get back to you.

Hi Laura,   Please find below the numbers for missing R/E. These values are as of today's update.   Cases - 1,402 (0.5%) Tests - 1,225,680 (47.8%) Deaths - 342 (7.5%)

Question

NV says "Records with unknown values for gender, race/ethnicity, and age are excluded from percent calculations for each demographic indicator. A significant number of records are missing race and ethnicity information." Without knowing how many records are missing race and ethnicity information, we have no idea what any of the race and ethnicity numbers should be, since we don't know what the N the percents are out of is. Can they please report the number of records with known race/ethnicity, or the number of records with unknown race/ethnicity (which are equivalent, because we can subtract) so that we can calculate what the percents mean? I selected "Cases" for the metric because it's a single select, but this applies to tests and deaths too.

Hi Laura,   I’ve sent this over to my team to get you the exact numbers. Last I checked we had about 25-30% of records missing R/E. This is similar to other western states (not sure about the rest of the country).

Question

will they publish vaccination data for long-term care facilities?

Answer

January 19, 2021

Answered by

we have not discussed posting facility-level data; it would be challenging when it comes to LTCF's, as we are leveraging the Pharmacy Partnership Program to serve them. While their doses administered reporting appears to be consistent, we do not have direct insight in the data reported to us which LTCF's are being served. We would need to work with the pharmacies to gain further details there.

We are looking at closely mirroring Washington's COVID19 vaccination dashboard.

Question

Can you provide case definitions?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

A confirmed case for NV is a positive molecular test, either PCR or ID Now, they do not include antigen or antibody tests. They said they would be willing to put this notation on their site.

Question

Can you publish death definitions?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

They'd like to see examples of how other states report death definitions and are open to publishing death definitions on their site.

Question

Can you break out probable and confirmed cases?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

They do not include probable cases (i.e. antigen or antibody testing in their test counts) so they would not be able to break these out.

Question

How do you define "environmental samples" ?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

These are tests done on high-touch surfaces, but it is a statistically tiny amount of tests.

Question

Can you provide test types?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

They only use PCR and ID Now tests, not antigen or antibody, so they do not see the value of breaking the test type down by two confirmatory test types.

Question

Can you report recovered cases?

Answer

November 17, 2020

Answered by

We don't have the investigative tools to come up with a recovered case number other than an estimate, i.e. any positive test that didn't result in a death. They are also unsure of what the public value is of reporting this number, so they haven't prioritized it. Can we show them examples?

Question

We are currently interpreting “Total Tests (Molecular)” (listed on the first page of the dashboard) as referring to the total number of tests conducted, and we are interpreting “Total People Tested” (on pages 3 and 4 of the dashboard) as referring to the total number of unique individuals tested. Are these correct interpretations?

Answer

September 10, 2020

Answered by

Yes, those are correct interpretations.

Question

Do you perform any deduplication (redundancies) to reach the “total tests” and “total people tested” figures? If so, how? If the same person gets different test results on different days, would you report the raw results as part of the daily positives or do you apply any kind of logic such as reporting only the first negative or positive result per individual?

Answer

September 10, 2020

Answered by

Total people tested is de-duplicated by the patient name and date of birth, and keeps the date of the person’s first test. If a person is tested multiple times, they will only be counted once in “total people tested” regardless of their test results.  If they have both positive and negative results, we keep the positive record.

September 10, 2020

Question

We only have a record of “Total People Tested (Molecular)” beginning May 13th and of “Total Tests” beginning April 29. Do you have plans to release a full historical time-series for this metric? Furthermore, other states provide their COVID-19 testing and outcomes in machine readable format, but as far as we are aware, Nevada does not at this time. Do you plan to release a historical time series of these numbers in formats such as json or csv?

Answer

Answered by

We are currently working on adding an export function to the dashboard so end users would be able to export the data populating the dashboard.

Question

What challenges are you facing in adjusting to the new HHS guidelines?

Answer

August 5, 2020

Answered by

There is a lot of data to collect. It takes a great deal of time for hospitals to complete the daily survey and then for the COVID-19 team at the NHA to validate, compile and push it out.

Question

Is Nevada performing pool testing? If so, how is this testing reported? What types of tests are they using? Is Nevada conducting antigen testing? Are these testing results reported on the state site? How many tests have they conducted?

Answer

July 15, 2020

Answered by

No we are not doing pool testing. No antigen testing is taking place, of which I am aware, but it is being discussed. I am looking into your other request and will get back to you soon.

Question

What are some of the factors leading to the cases without race/ethnicity data (i.e. are patients or hospitals not reporting it?)

Answer

July 2, 2020

Answered by

The laboratory results received by the Department of Health and Human Services for the COVID-19 Dashboard do not include race and ethnicity information. That information is gathered when we contact the patient and the missing data reflects cases where we were not able to reach the patient, or they declined to provide this information.

Question

Do "confirmed cases" include staff and residents combined? How do you define "skilled nursing" and how do you define "assisted living"

Answer

June 10, 2020

Answered by

On the Nevada COVID-19 Facilities Dashboard confirmed cases include both staff and residents.Information on the definition of “skilled nursing” can be found on the health facilities page and information on “assisted living” can be found on the residential facility for groups page, both of which include links to the Nevada statute.
