On February 22, 2021, Virginia announced that the Virginia Department of Health was processing 2021 death certificates resulting from a “post-holiday surge of COVID-19 cases”. As a result, new deaths from this time period may be larger than usual. We urge caution when interpreting data from this period, and encourage the use of 7 and 14-day averages as more reliable metrics.

A decrease in the number of cases and tests reported on January 31, and an increase in the number of cases and tests reported on February 1 is anticipated because of these upgrades”.

On December 2, 2020, we revised out time series of Virginia's Ever hospitalized to align with what the state reports on the state dashboard.

On November 16, 2020, Virginia announced via their COVID-19 Dashboard that “2,677 case count reported on Monday, November 16 is due to a catch-up from the VDH data system being down for upgrades for a few hours over the weekend”. As a result, not all cases reported on November 16, 2020 were reported within the previous 24 hour period.

Starting in early May, Virginia has been reporting their tests in units of test encounters. CTP has been capturing this data in the Total Tests (PCR) column. CTP now added a column to capture tests reported in test encounters units so we are moving the data to the correct column.
