OK, grades are back.

The score contains 4 simple components:

  1. +1 for reporting positives reliably (only NV fails)
  2. +1 for reporting negatives sometimes
  3. +1 for reporting negatives reliably
  4. +1 for reporting all commercial tests

(All labs report positives.) https://t.co/rYMZjHE70r

OK, the new site is up: https://t.co/PZrmH4bl5Y

Here's a look at the visual evolution. And there's at least this much change under the hood over these last three weeks as we've built the processes to sustain the project over the long term. https://t.co/4Vvop2zFNa

OK, our final decision—after tortuous discussion—is to commit to this new California data for cases and deaths, relying on @GavinNewsom press conferences for other outcome data. We've left negative and pending tests intact, until the state provides an update.

@PeterWa97559477 @banjelope Worth noting that's probably somewhat due to Oklahoma's lack of reporting on negative tests from anybody but the state lab. Many other states were in the same boat and almost all report more comprehensively. OK should really do that, too.

Oklahoma finally put out comprehensive numbers on testing. Thanks for the heads up, @TiffanyAlaniz. https://t.co/g6wiecym4A

Here are the states reporting more than 500 new cases today.

Worth noting TN set a new record high yesterday. MS had growing cases and their reporting broke down. OK set a new record 6/18. (NM's data looks good in recent weeks.) https://t.co/kaP2XhdoSl

Three more states of interest: California, Oklahoma, and Georgia.

(GA had reporting problems during that May 24 week, which is why the numbers look strange.) https://t.co/6HFs7D09GI

OK, finally we have California in hand. Tweets forthcoming in a new daily update thread. Thank you for your patience.

Note that Oklahoma reported positive tests but not negative or total tests today. This almost certainly does not mean OK has a 100% positive rate. It’s a reporting delay.

OK, our daily update is published. States reported 637k tests. Today’s case count is the second-highest in our data; the record was set yesterday. Hospitalizations kept moving upward, and states reported 867 deaths. https://t.co/yHiWEpz8IK

July 15, 2020, 2:58 PM PDT

Alabama set a new record for deaths (47), breaking their previous record, which was set yesterday. Oklahoma set a new record for cases today, breaking 1000 for the first time. Both states also set new records for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. https://t.co/pbOJ2T5wLi

July 22, 2020, 3:40 PM PDT

California, Missouri, Oklahoma, and North Dakota all set new records for cases today. https://t.co/sendGsELSU

July 23, 2020, 3:28 PM PDT

OK, well, now our daily update is published. States reported more than 70k cases for the 4th time ever. Hospitalizations are near their all-time high (with the previously noted caveats). More than 1,000 deaths were reported for the third day in a row, after 55 days sub-1,000. https://t.co/5kAX6zv9nl

July 29, 2020, 3:34 PM PDT

OK, our daily update is published. States reported 840k tests completed, nearly 66k new cases, and hospitalizations ticked up. The major observation, however, is that states reported more than 1400 deaths today, the most since May 15. https://t.co/PGCu7Z4pXC

Mississippi and Oklahoma have seen rapid growth in cases. Mississippi now rivals Florida for the highest number of cases per million population. https://t.co/S01vrOmo42

October 24, 2020, 3:21 PM PDT

Daily cases in Ohio have hit a new high four days in a row, including today. OK also reported a new case high today. https://t.co/7OYvKY12g7

January 3, 2021, 3:28 PM PST

At publish time, we had no updates from 7 of the 56 states and territories we track: AR, CT, KS, MI, MP, RI, and WA. Seven additional states did not report current hospitalizations today: HI, MN, MS, NV, OK, OR, and WI.

As this warning from Oklahoma indicates, it’s possible—and likely—that holiday reporting disruptions are still affecting the data in many states. We recommend continued caution in interpreting the data at this time. https://t.co/2TNu3aq3dg
