Question

For both cases and deaths, we want to confirm that 100% for each chart (https://covid-tracking.slack.com/files/U010KL8E40J/F01LKJK6K2A/image.png) is is for the confirmed cases and confirmed deaths.

Currently, any value over 1,000 rounds in the tooltip, so 36,4XX rounds to 36.4k, meaning that we lose information either by using the percentages or by using the rounded numbers. Would it be possible to display the extra digits?

Question

We are inquiring about interpreting "Total Tested" > "Diagnostic” from Alabama's COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard. The dashboard says "Total Tested represents unique individuals with tests satisfactorily performed by ADPH, BCL, and other commercial and clinical labs." We’d like to better understand whether the timeframe for uniqueness is for each day, or for all time. We’re assuming that the timeframe for uniqueness is “for each day” and therefore that the following statements are true. Can you please confirm?

  1. If a person was tested on Monday and then tested again on Friday, that person’s tests would cause the “total tested” number to increase by two.
  2. If a person was swabbed twice in one day and both swabs were tested, those two swabs (specimens) would be counted as one unique individual tested and thus increase the total tested number by one.
  3. If a person who had previously tested positive was re-tested on a subsequent day, that new test (or tests) would be counted towards the "Total Tested" number.

HHS changes

Answer

August 4, 2020

Answered by

Due to the Alabama Incident Management System (AIMS) already being in place in Alabama, there some additional metrics that will be tracked.  However, AIMS already tracked a number of the metrics for Alabama.  There is little if any effect for Alabama as hospitals enter data in AIMS daily. There are a few changes that have been added to AIMS. (RK following up on specifics)The process will likely streamline data reporting for hospitals.

Antigen testing?

Answer

July 13, 2020

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) accepts for diagnostic purposes, PCR and antigen testing.  ADPH through its Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL) does not perform antigen testing at this time. As antigen has recently been approved under EUA, ADPH expects to accept antigen and report in a separate testing category when this is being utilized.

Question

On testing data: Are antibody tests included in this figure, and if so does the state have plans to break them out?

Answer

June 10, 2020

Answered by

"ADPH does not consider antibody testing as part of the diagnostic criteria for COVID 19 and follows the guidance of the Infectious Disease Society of American concerning this. While some antibody testing has been reported to ADPH, we do not report patients tested with antibodies as COVID 19 cases. Less than 4% of tests reported to ADPH has been antibody testing from commercial entities, and ADPH is in the process of removing this from our testing data."
