Number of confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases with race/ethnicity information reported by the state or territory, scaled to the population size of the corresponding racial/ethnic group. Race and ethnicity are classified according to standard Census categories. Data only includes demographic groups reported by the states, and cases with race classified as “Other” or “Two or more races” are not shown. Cases classified as Hispanic/Latino ethnicity may include any race. In some states, race categories are defined as non-Hispanic/Latino ethnicity, whereas race categories may include both Hispanic/Latino and non-Hispanic/Latino ethnicity in other states. Population sizes are taken from the Census Bureau’s 2018 ACS 5-Year estimates matched to the way the state reports (Table B03002 for states that define race categories as non-Hispanic/Latino; Table B02001 for race and B03002 for ethnicity in states that include both Hispanic/Latino and non-Hispanic/Latino ethnicity in race categories).
